The Hua Hin Open is a professional women’s tennis tournament held in Thailand. Played in outdoor hard court conditions, it began in 2019 and was scheduled to be held each year. However, it was not held in 2021 and 2022. It returned in 2023 as a WTA 250 event.
The Hua Hin Open has competitions in both singles and doubles formats. The singles event has a draw size of 32 players whereas in doubles, 16 pairs make it to the main draw. In singles, apart from the main draw, a qualifying draw is held for lower ranked players. Out of the 24 players who feature in this draw, four make it to the main draw.
Each match in the tournament is played in the best of three sets format. A player or team wins a set when they win six games with a difference of two games. A set score of 6-6 indicates that a seven-point tiebreak shall decide the outcome of the set. The first player to seven points with a difference of two thus wins. In doubles, if a third set is enforced, then it is played as a tiebreak. This is a ten-point tiebreak wherein the side that is first to ten points with a difference of two wins the match.
A total of 250 ranking points are awarded to the champions and 163 ranking points to the runners-up. As of 2024, the total prize pool for the Hua Hin Open is USD 267,082. The singles champion receives USD 36,250. The doubles duo who wins the title earn USD 12,820.
China’s Zhu Lin, who won the singles title at Hua Hin in 2023 is the only player to reach the finals of the event twice. Interestingly, no doubles team (or even a player) has made the finals of the doubles competition twice.
