GreenSet is the manufacturer of synthetic surfaces and is a specialist in making professional tennis hard courts. It was used in European countries initially in 1970. Today, over 60,000 tennis courts globally feature the GreenSet hard court surface.
GreenSet offers a range of options for hard court events that are contested in both indoor and outdoor conditions. GreenSet Club, GreenSet Confort, GreenSet Grand Prix, and GreenSet MTC are the commonly used turfs manufactured by GreenSet that is used in professional tennis. These surfaces have a court pace that is either medium-slow, medium, or medium-fast in accordance with the International Tennis Federation.
The GreenSet Club and the GreenSet Grand Prix differ each other by only one layer (absent in Club) and are widely used in both indoor and outdoor professional tennis tournaments. On a compacted natural soil, layers of gravel and bituminous asphalt are placed. Over these compacted layers is the playing surface that is composed of acrylic and vinyl copolymers along with silica. This makes the surface durable for professional play.
GreenSet Confort finds its application more in indoor conditions. Underneath the signature playing surface lies a padding of rubber or synthetic resin which makes the surface shock resistant. Finally, the GreenSet MTC is one which has been used widely in men’s professional events. It is a relatively thinner surface which has chipboard panels for controlling humidity.
The Australian Open is one of the four elite tournaments in professional tennis that switched to GreenSet surface in 2020. It has also been used previously in ATP Finals, Davis Cup, Billie Jean King Cup matches, Olympics, and Paralympics. The Cincinnati Masters, Paris Masters, Swiss Indoors, Open Sud de France, and the WTA Prague Open are some of the notable professional events to utilize the GreenSet surface.
