The Asian Cricket Council developed the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup in 2023. The objective of this tournament was to unearth skilled women’s cricketers from Asia in the T20 format.
A total of eight teams participate in the event. This includes the A teams of the top four teams with a One Day International status and the four best associate member nations from the Asian region. All matches of the tournament are played in the T20 International format.
The participating teams are divided into two groups; each containing two teams with an ODI status and two associate member nations. Each team in a group plays the other once in a round-robin format. A win fetches two points, an abandoned match is worth one point, and no points are awarded for a loss. If two teams are tied at the same number of points, then the number of match wins and net run rate act as tiebreakers. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group progress to the semi-finals.
The inaugural edition of the Emerging Women’s East Asia Cup was held in 2023 and the next edition is scheduled to be held in 2025. The participating teams for the first edition of the tournament were India A, Pakistan A, Sri Lanka A, Bangladesh A, Nepal, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. India A won the tournament in 2023.
Bangladesh’s Murshida Khatun was the highest run-scorer whereas India’s Shreyanka Patil was the leading wicket-taker. Bangladesh’s total of 148 against Malaysia is the highest innings total of a team in the tournament.
