What is the Zimbabwe Women’s T20 Cup in cricket?

The Zimbabwe Women’s T20 Cup is the premier domestic tournament for women in the shortest format of the game. It began in 2020 and is administrated by Zimbabwe Cricket.

The tournament featured four teams: Eagles, Rhinos, Mountaineers, and Tuskers. In 2024, Zimbabwe’s U-19 team was also added. The tournament runs along with the Fifty50 Challenge which is a domestic women’s competition played in the One Day International format.

Each team plays the other twice, thereby playing in a double round-robin format. A match win is worth two points, a loss is worth zero points, and an abandoned match or a match without any result leads to each team getting one point. At the end of the league stage, the top two teams of the table contest the final.

The Eagles have been the most successful side of the tournament, winning the title three times. The Mountaineers have twice made the final. In the inaugural edition the leading run-scorer was Modester Mupachikwa who scored 241 runs. Mupachikawa is also the most successful wicket-keeper for being involved in 11 dismissals since 2022. Precious Marange was the highest wicket-taker with nine wickets.

Since 2022, Kelis Ndhlovu has been the highest run-scorer with 677 runs, that is 123 runs more than Mupachikwa’s current total. Precious Marange continues to be the leading wicket-taker, with 31 wickets to her name.

Sharne Mayers is the only player to have scored a century in the history of the tournament since 2024. Mayers further created history in 2024 by becoming the highest run-scorer (445 runs) and the leading wicket-taker (18 wickets) in the same edition. She was instrumental in Tuskers winning the 2024 Zimbabwe Women’s T20 Cup, defeating the Zimbabwe U-19 side in the final.
