What is the Women’s County T20 Cup in cricket?

The Women’s County T20 Cup is a domestic cricket tournament organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board. It began in 2009 and features teams that represent the different counties of England.

A total of 35 teams are divided into four regional groups. Teams play each team in their respective group once. A match win is worth eight points, whereas a tied match results in both teams getting four points each. A loss or an abandoned match fetch no points. If two teams are tied at the same number of points at the end of the regional stage then the better side is decided by the net run-rate.

In addition to these points, teams are also awarded bonus points based on their performance. A bowling side gets one bonus point for taking one or two wickets in the powerplay, and two points if they manage to claim more than two wickets. At the end of the innings, the bowling side also gets points based on the number of wickets they took. Taking 1-4 wickets is worth one bonus point, 5-6 is two bonus points, 7-8 is three bonus points, whereas 9-10 is four bonus points.

The batting side gets one bonus point for scoring anywhere between 30 to 44 runs in the powerplay. A score of over 45 runs in this stage is worth two bonus points. Additionally, the batting side gets one, two, three, or four bonus points if they hit 5-19, 11-15, 16-20, or 21+ boundaries in the innings.

The group toppers qualify for the national finals. In this stage, the four qualified teams face each other in the round-robin format. The points system in this stage is similar to the one used in the regional stage. At the end of the round-robin matches, the team with the most points is crowned the champion.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge is the only player to have twice recorded the most runs in a single edition of the tournament. No player has repeated this feat in terms of most wickets in a single edition. Kent has been the most successful team, winning three titles as of 2024.
