The Super50 Cup is one half of the Women’s Super Series which is the annual limited-overs domestic tournaments of Ireland. The second half of the tournament features a Super 20 Trophy. This article details the features of the Super 50 Cup.
The Women’s Super Series used to be a combined 50-over and T20 format tournament from 2015 to 2020. It was only in 2021 that the the event split as two contests. The tournament is played between three teams: Dragons, Scorchers, and Typhoons. Each team consists of players representing different parts of Ireland.
All matches are played in the One Day International format where one innings lasts for no more than 50 overs. These matches follow the rules and regulations as per the International Cricket Council for women’s cricket. This tournament also paves the way for Irish women to get an opportunity to make it to the national side.
Each team plays the other team twice in a home and away format. The team with most points is crowned the champion. A team gets four points for winning a match, two points for a tied or no result, and zero points for a loss. An additional point is awarded to the winning team if their run rate is 1.25 times more than their opponent’s. At the end of the league stage, if two teams are tied in terms of points, then the net run rate decides the champion.
Scorchers are the most successful team in this section of the Women’s Super Series. When it was a combined event between 2015 to 2020, Scorchers won the event twice. Additionally since 2021, they have won the Super 50 Cup twice.
