What is the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy in cricket?

The Senior Women’s One Day Trophy is a List A domestic tournament in India. It features women’s teams that represent a state of the country with the addition of Railways. The tournament began in 2006-07 and is administrated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Based on their performances in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, players get a chance to showcase their prowess in the limited-overs format. Through these performances, they get a chance to be picked up for the national side.

The 37 participating teams are divided into five groups. These groups are based on the standings in the points table of the previous year’s tournament. A round-robin and knockout draw format is used. Each team plays the other teams of their group once. The top two teams from each group progress to the quarterfinals. A match win in the group match is worth four points, a tie leads to both teams getting two points, and no points are deducted for a loss. If two teams are tied at the same number of points, then the net run-rate acts as a tiebreaker.

The tournament is played in the 50-over One Day International format. Historically, the tournament has been dominated by Railways who have won a record 15 titles as of 2024. Delhi and Bengal have won one title each.

Mithali Raj holds the record for being the top run-scorer in four different editions of the tournament. No player has repeated this feat as a bowler for the record of most wickets. In the 2008-09 edition Preeti Dimri picked up 25 wickets, which remains the highest tally for a single edition of the tournament as of 2024.
