What are the Pro50 Championships in the sport of cricket?

The Pro50 Championships is the premier List A tournament of Zimbabwe. It is organized by Zimbabwe Cricket and has been held since 2002-03. All matches of the tournament are played in the 50-over One Day International format. The tournament acts as a pathway for players to make it to the national side.

The tournament sees the participation of teams that represent a region of Zimbabwe. Previously, the national team of Namibia has also featured in the competition. As of 2024, the five participating teams are Mountaineers, Mashonaland Eagles, Mid West Rhinos, Matabeleland Tuskers, and Southern Rocks. The Southern Rocks featured in the competition from 2009 to 2014, and made their reappearance in the tournament in 2021.

Teams face each other in a double round-robin format where each teams plays the other twice. Each win is worth two points, a loss is worth zero points, and one point is awarded to each team in case of an abandoned match. At the end of the league stage, the top two teams contest the final. If two teams are tied at the same number of points, then the better team is decided by the net run-rate.

The Mashonaland Eagles are the most successful team in the Pro50 Championships, winning six titles as of 2024. The Mid West Rhinos have made seven finals, but managed to win the tournament only once. No player has had the distinction of being the highest run-scorer of the tournament twice. Among the bowlers, Christopher Mpofu and Natsai Mushangwe have finished as the leading wicket-takers four and three times respectively.
