The Prague Open is a women’s professional tennis event and a part of the global circuit laid out by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). The outdoor clay court event is held since 2010, but was upgraded to its current stature of a WTA 250 event in 2015. The tournament was held on hard courts between 2021 to 2023.
Both singles and doubles events are contested at the Prague Open. The singles draw size of 32 in the main draw features six qualifying slots and three wild card spots. The doubles draw on the other hand has brackets for 16 pairs, two of which enter the main draw as wildcard cards.
Every match is played by the standard rules in the best of three sets format. When a set reaches a score of six games all, then a tiebreak decides the winner of the set. This tiebreak is won by the player who is the first to seven points with a difference of two points. In doubles, if a match goes to a deciding set, then a tiebreak is played as the decider. The team who is the first to win ten points with a clear gap of two points wins the match.
The winners of the singles and doubles tournaments get 250 points, whereas the runners-up get 163 points. As of 2024, the Prague Open has a prize pool of $267,082. The champion of the singles event gets $35,250, whereas the champions doubles side gets $12,820.
Czech player Lucie Safarova has won three singles titles at the tournament. However, she has won it only once since the event was upgraded as a WTA 250 event. No player has won the singles title twice as of 2024. In doubles, Czech players Lucie Hradecka, Kveta Peschke, and Katerina Siniakova has won two titles each since the event’s upgradation.
