The Monsoon Pickleball Championships is one of the leading pickleball tournaments in India. The tournament is organized by Global Sports and is held at the Nesco Ground, Mumbai. It was in 2023 when the first edition of the tournament was held.
The arena that hosts the tournament features 18 indoor synthetic courts. The air-conditioned arena hosts men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events in various categories based on the age group. These age groups are Open Pro, 19+ intermediate, 30+ open, 40+ open, 50+ open, 18+ open, 60+ open, and split age 35+.
The Monsoon Pickleball Championships is one of the marquee events of pickleball in India, featuring participants from different nations. It has featured over 800 participants across the 47 different categories. Players compete against each other to secure a podium finish wherein they will be awarded a gold, silver, or bronze medal.
Most matches at the tournament is played in the best of three sets format. Players need to win 11 points to win a set. Moreover, players can only win a point on their own serve. There are some preliminary stages in various categories where only one set is played. In such a scenario, the player who is first to 15 points with a difference of two points wins the match.
The 2024 event of the tournament has a total prize pool of USD 100,000. This is the highest prize money on offer for any pickleball event held in India till date. The participation of players from Professional Pickleball Association increases the scope for the Monsoon Pickleball Championships to be eligible for offering ranking points to players in the next couple of years. Currently, Pickleball Global classifies the event as a Tier 2 event.
