The Men’s T20 East Asia Cup is a cricket tournament played between the national sides of Japan, China, South Korea, and Hong Kong. The event alternates between a men’s and a women’s tournament each year. In 2016, the first men’s tournament was held.
Though the women’s tournament received an approval from the International Cricket Council in 2019, the men’s tournament got an official T20 International status for all its matches in 2024. The 2024 edition did not see participation from South Korea.
The tournament follows a round-robin format followed by a final. Each team plays the other once in the league stage. A win earns them two points, zero points for a loss, and one point for an abandoned match. The top two teams at the end of the league stage qualify for the final. Despite a team less in the 2024 edition, the format of the tournament did not change.
As of 2024, Japan has hosted the men’s T20 East Asia Cup once and Hong Kong has been the host twice. South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong have each won the title once. Notably, Japan has made the final in each edition.
Since all records from the 2024 edition of the tournament are to be considered in the official T20 International records, the Japanese opening pair of Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming recorded the highest partnership for the first wicket. They scored a mind-boggling 258 runs against China. Kadowaki-Fleming was also the highest run-getter of the tournament with 217 runs to his name. Sabaorish Ravichandran was the leading wicket-taker with nine to his name.
