What is the Hangzhou Open in tennis?

The Hangzhou Open is a professional tennis tournament on the All Tennis Professionals’ tour. It is played on hard courts and is held during the Asian swing. It is classified as an ATP 250 event on the men’s tennis tour. The outdoor hard court tournament was first held in 2024 as it replaced the Zhuhai championships.

The Hangzhou Open is held during the Asian swing and is played at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Center. A singles and a doubles competition are held during the week the Hangzhou Open is scheduled in. A single elimination draw is followed for both the events. The draw size for the singles and doubles events are 28 players and 16 pairs respectively.

All matches are played in the best of three sets format. A player or a team wins a match when they win two sets. A tiebreka is enforced at a set score of games apiece. The winner of the set is the side that is first to set points with a difference of two in the tiebreak. In doubles, if a third set is enforced, then it is played as a tiebreak. The pair who is first to ten points with a difference of two is the winner of the match.

The champions of both singles and doubles comeptition earn 250 ranking points each. In singles and doubles, 165 and 150 points are earned by the runners-up respectively. The prize pool of Hangzhou Open is USD 10,81,395. The singles champion receives USD 152,240, whereas the doubles’ champion team is rewarded with USD 34,960.
