Guadalajara Open is a professional women’s tennis tournament that is a part of the Women’s Tennis Association circuit. The event was introduced as a WTA 1000 event in 2022. It remained in this tier till 2023, before being downgraded as a WTA 500 event in 2024.
Both singles and doubles competitions are contested at the Guadalajara Open. The singles main draw size is of 28 players whereas the doubles main draw size is as of 16 pairs. Both the draws are played in a single elimination draw format.
A player has to win two sets out of three to win a match. A set is won by a player who is first to six games with a difference of two. Should the set be tied at six games apiece, then a tiebreak decides the outcome of the set. The player who is first to seven points with a difference of two points wins the tiebreak. In doubles, a deciding set is played as a ten-point tiebreak. The first team to win ten points with a difference of two wins the match.
The winner of the tournament in both singles and doubles gets 500 ranking points. The runners-up of these events get 325 points. The total prize pool of the event as of 2024 is USD 922,573. A total of USD 142,000 is won by the singles champion whereas the doubles champions gets USD 47,390.
Maria Sakkari is the only player to reach the finals twice. The Greek reached both the finals of the event as a WTA 1000 event and won it once. Australia’s Storm Hunter won the doubles title at the Mexican tournament twice, both as a WTA 1000 event.
