The Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy is the name given to the test series that is contested between India and Bangladesh. Though the two sides have been playing test matches against each other since 2000, the official inception of this series was in 2017.
Before 2017, India and Bangladesh had faced each other in eight test matches, two of which were one-off encounters. India won six of these matches, and two of them ended in a draw. As a tribute to Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and Bangladesh’s first test captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board instilled the Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy in the 2017 series.
Ever since it was first held in 2017, the Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy has been contested three times, with a fourth series currently being held in September 2024. In the three series held till date, two have been held in India, and one in Bangladesh. Across all series, a total of five matches have been held, with India winning all of the matches.
Cheteshwar Pujara is the leading run-scorer in the Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy whereas Mushfiqur Rahim has been the top scorer for Bangladesh. Ravichandran Ashwin is the most successful bowler in the series. Bangladesh’s Shakib al Hasan has taken the most wickets for his side. Ever since it began, Ravichandran Ashwin is the only player to be given the man of the match more than once.
The highest team total was recorded by India in 2017 when they declared at 687/6. Bangladesh recorded the lowest total of the series when they were all out for 106 in the 2019 series. Mayank Agarwal’s 243 remains the highest individual score in the Ganguly-Durjoy Trophy. Apart from Agarwal, Kohli’s 204 are the only two registered double centuries recorded as of 2024. Ishant Sharma’s tally of 9/78 in a match are the best recorded figures between India and Bangladesh.
