The Denmark Open is a Super 750 tournament on the Badminton World Professional Tour’s circuit. It is the second oldest tournament in badminton having started in 1936. It is organized by Badminton Denmark.
The tournament hosts events in men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles categories. Each event has a draw size of 32 wherein the eight highest ranked players or pairs are seeded. All events are played in the single elimination knockout format.
A set is won when a side wins 21 points with a difference of two points. Players win a match when they win two out of three sets. If the score is 20-20, then play continues until one of them has a distinct lead of two points.
The tournament offers 11,000 ranking points to the champions and 9350 points to the runners-up. It has a massive prize pool of USD $850,000, of which the singles and doubles champions earn USD $59,500 and USD $62,900 respectively.
As of 2024, Morten Frost and Tonny Olsen hold the record of winning eight titles each in the men’s singles and women’s singles categories. Ng Boon Bee, Li Yongbo, Tian Bingyi, Jon Holst-Christensen, and Lars Paaske have won four men’s doubles titles each. In the women’s doubles category, Tonny Ahm and Kirsten Thorndahl have won a record five titles each. Thomas Lund and Nora Perry have each been mixed doubles champions on five instances.
The most successful nation at the event is Denmark, with 139 of their players lifting a title in one of the disciplines. The next best nation is China with 74 of its players winning the title.
