The Croatia Open is the oldest tennis tournament of Croatia. It began in 1990, when Croatia was still a part of Yugoslavia. Following the birth of Croatia, the clay court tournament was renamed from Yugoslav Open to Croatia Open. It is currently a part of the ATP 250 series of events on the men’s professional tennis tour.
The tournament has hosted a singles and a doubles event since it’s first edition. The draw size of the singles event is 32, featuring four slots for qualifiers and four for wildcard entrants. In doubles the main draw size is 16, two of which enter as wildcards.
Currently, the scoring format is the conventional best of three sets format every match. A player has to win six games with a difference of two to win a match. If the set reaches a score of six games all, then a tiebreak follows. The player who wins seven points with a difference of two points wins the set. In doubles, the third set is a match tiebreak. The doubles side who wins ten points with a difference of two points wins the match.
The winners of the singles and doubles competition earn 250 ranking points. The singles and doubles runners-up receive 165 and 150 ranking points respectively. As of 2024, the prize money of the Croatia Open is €579,320. The singles champion takes away €88,125, whereas the doubles champions get €30,610.
Carlos Moya has won the most singles title at the event, with five to his name. The doubles event has been won thrice each by Javier Sanchez, Michal Mertinak, and Frantisek Cermak.
