The Twenty20 Blaze is the domestic women’s T20 Championship of West Indies. It began in 2012 and is played between six Caribbean teams as of 2024. The current teams are Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Windward Islands. Red Force Divas are a new side that will be joining the competition from the 2024 edition.
The tournament began in 2012 and was played in a round-robin format between eight teams. Formats continued to change till 2016. The current format of the tournament was first implemented in 2018. Each match of an edition is played at one fixed venue each year. The regional competition facilitates the selection of young players for the national side. It is also hosted in different venues to promote women’s cricket in different parts of the Carribbean region.
The tournament features all six teams play each other in a single round-robin format. Teams are awarded four points for a win, zero for a loss, and two points for a tie or shared result. The team with most points wins the tournament. If the final standings sees two teams tied at the same points, then the winner is declared based on the head-to-head record. Even though the net run rate is calculated, it is not considered while deciding the final winner. Instead, it helps in determining the positions of the teams in the final standings (3rd position to last position).
All rules of women’s T20 apply to T20 Blaze. Jamaica and Barbados are the most successful teams with three titles each. The prize money for winning the T20 Blaze as of 2024 is USD $10,000 for the winners and $5000 for the runners-up.
