The Central American Cricket Championship is contested in the region of the same name. They were initially played in the 50-over format but have resorted to the T20 format in the latest editions.
The tournament features teams from Central America. Due to the inconsistent number of entrants in the competition, there is no particular format in which the tournament is played. However, teams most often face each other in a round-robin format unless there are only two entrants. In the latter case, the two teams face each other in a three or five match series.
If a round robin format is followed then a win is worth two points, a loss is worth zero points, and a tie or no result is worth one point for each team. At the end of the round-robin stage, the top two teams contest the final. If two teams are tied at the same number of points at the end of the league stage, then the better team is decided based on the net run-rate.
The first five editions were not recognised by the International Cricket Council. It was only from the 2019 edition, that the tournament’s results were considered for ranking points as all the members of the International Cricket Council were given a T20 status. Due to the poor maintenance of the records and inconsistent archiving, the tournament’s leading run scorers and wicket-takers cannot be determined.
Belize has been the most successful team of the Central American Cricket Championship, winning three titles since the inception of the event in 2006. Panama and Mexico have won two titles each, whereas the Marylebone Cricket Club has won one title.
