The Celebrity Cricket League is a cricket tournament in India that is not recognised either by the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the International Cricket Council. It is an amateur event that is played between players who are celebrities of the film industry.
The Celebrity Cricket League is unique for two reasons. Firstly, it has featured it’s tournaments in T20, T10, and 20-over test format. Secondly, the participating teams represent the various film industries of India. These franchise teams are Mumbai Heroes (Bollywood), Bengal Tigers (Tollywood), Bhojpuri Dabangs (Bhojiwood), Chennai Rhinos (Kollywood), Karnataka Bulldozers (Sandalwood), Kerala Strikers (Mollywood), Punjab de Sher (Pollywood), and Telugu Warriors (Tollywood).
The Celebrity Cricket League follows a format that is similar to the one used in Indian Premier League. Each team plays the other in a single round-robin format in the league stage. A team is awarded two points for a win, zero for a loss, and one for a shared or no result.
At the end of the league stage, the top two teams play the first qualifier. The winner of this match progresses to the final. Teams placed third and fourth play an eliminator. The winner of this match faces the loser of the first qualifier. The result of this match decides the second finalist.
Starting in 2023, the Celebrity Cricket League is played in a 20-over test format. This format is similar to test cricket, only that it features limited overs. Each team bats alternatively and each innings lasts twenty overs. The team that has scored the most runs in their combined 40 overs is declared the winner.
Telugu Warriors are the most successful team, having won four titles as of 2024. Karanataka Bulldozers and Chennai Rhinos have won the title twice each, whereas Mumbai Heroes have won the title once.
