Richie Benaud and Abdul Qadir were two bowlers who were known for their leg spin ability in cricket. While Benaud picked up 248 wickets in 63 tests, the Pakistani took 236 wickets in his 67 tests. Both players played over 200 first class matches and both picked up over 900 wickets in this tier.
Australia and Pakistan first played each other in test cricket in 1956. The one-off test was won by Pakistan in front of their home crowd. Till 2019-20, a total of 25 series were played between the two sides. This included 66 test matches, out of which 33 were won by Australia, 15 by Pakistan, and 18 ended in a draw. Australia won 13 of the 25 series, Pakistan won seven of them, and five of them ended in a draw. Between 1995 to 2010, Australia won all the six series.
In 2021, the International Cricket Council, Pakistan Cricket Board, and Cricket Australia decided to name the test series between the two nations as the Benaud-Qadir Trophy. The first edition of the rebranded series was held in Pakistan and the next in Australia. Both series were won by Australia. Ever since its inception, the Benaud-Qadir Trophy has been a part of the qualification circuit for the ICC World Test Championship.
Six test matches have been played in the first two editions. Four of them are won by Australia and two ended in a draw. Usman Khawaja is leading run-scorer thus far with 716 runs in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy. Pat Cummins leads the wicket tally with 31 to his name.
