What is the Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket League?

The Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket League is the premier women’s List A domestic competition of the country. It is played since 2006 and has featured teams from the eight divisions of the country.

As of 2024, the participating teams are the Mymensingh Division, Chattogram Division, Sylhet Division, Rangpur Division, Barishal Division, Rajshahi Division, Khulna Division, and Dhaka Division. The tournament has faced a lot of challenges in terms of archiving the results of the competition. Thus, no records exist for the 2006-07, 2015, and 2018-19 editions of the event.

The tournament features a round-robin format. Each of the eight teams plays the other once. Teams earn two points for a win and zero for a loss. A match with no result or an abandoned match leads to each team getting one point. At the end of the round-robin stage, the team that tops the points table is declared the champion. If two teams are tied at the same number of points, then the number of match wins, head-to-head record, and net run-rate act as tiebreakers.

As of 2024, there have been seven editions of the tournament played in the 50-over format and five editions in the T20 format. Khulna Division has been the most successful team, winning the Women’s National Cricket League five times. They are also the only team to win the event in both 50-over and T20 format. The Sylhet Division is the only other side who have won the event more than once; in 2017-18 and 2022-23. Mymensingh Division won their maiden title in 2024.
