The Auty Cup is postured by many as the oldest international sporting rivalry tournament between two nations. The tournament is played between the national cricket teams of the United States of America and Canada.
The first official cricket match took place between United States of America and Canada in 1844. The match was won by the Americans, who defeated Canada, who was still under the British Empire. In 1845, a return fixture was won by Canada. Later that year, Canada defeated the Americans in New York. The return fixture of 1845 was the first official match that was a part of the Auty Cup.
The tournament is named after Karl Andre Auty. He was an engineer and cricket enthusiast who ensured that the sport remained active in the United States of America in the 1930s and 1940s. The original Auty Cup retired in 1963. It was rededicated to K.A. Auty in 1983.
The series between the two nations was played as an annual event. However, the records of the results are not known prominently. In 1994, owing to financial difficulties the tournament ceased for 17 long years.
The 2011 saw the revival of the rivalry. The matches played between the two teams now transitioned from two day matches to One Day International matches, and T20 International matches. However, since 2016, the cricket associations of the two teams have struggled to host the event annually. Neither side is a test-playing side, making the tours restricted to the limited overs format.
United States of America has won more Auty Cup titles than Canada as of 2024. Since the third decade of the 21st century, there has been no definite recurring time period on when the Auty Cup will be hosted.
