The Pakistan Super League is the highest level of T20 cricket in Pakistan. The tournament does not have a single directing authority. Instead, each team’s investors are responsible for managing their team’s matches. The inaugural edition was held in 2015.
The Pakistan Super League features six teams. These teams are Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qualandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators.
Teams play each other in a double round robin format. The top four teams at the end of the group stage qualify for the playoffs. The top two teams contest the first qualifier. The winner of this match advances to the final. The third and fourth team play against each other in an eliminator. The winner of this match plays the second qualifier against the loser of the first qualifier. This match then decides the second finalist.
In the group stage, teams get two points for a win, one for a tie or shared result, and zero for a loss. If two teams are tied in terms of points, then the better team is decided by the team with a better run rate. If that too is same, then the better team is decided by highest number of wins followed by highest number of losses, followed by head-to-head record.
As of 2024, Islamabad United and Lahore Qualandars are the most successful sides having won the title twice each. Babar Azam is the most successful batter having scored over 3200 runs. Wahab Riaz is the leading wicket-taker of the event with over 113 wickets to his name.
