What is the CSA Women’s T20 Challenge?

The CSA Women’s T20 Challenge is a domestic cricket competition of South Africa. It began in 2012-13 and runs along side the CSA Women’s One Day Cup.

The tournament features sixteen women’s teams representing the different provinces of South Africa. As of 2024, the participating teams are Boland, Northerns, North West, Kwazulu-Natal Inland, Kwazulu-Natal Coastal, Kei, Western Province, Easterns, Eastern Province, Border, Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, Central Gauteng, and South Western Districts.

The 16 teams are divided into three groups: Top 6, Pool A, and Pool B. Teams in Pool A and Pool B play each other in a single round-robin format. The teams in Top 6 play each other twice in a double round-robin format. A match win is worth four points, and an abandoned match is worth two points. No points are deducted for a loss. If a match is tied, a super over decides the outcome of the match.

The two table toppers of the Top 6 stage contest the final. Teams that top the Pool A and Pool B are promoted in the next season, whereas the last placed team in Top 6 is relegated.

The archiving of the records of the first three editions of the event are not entirely available. Since 2015, the batter with the most runs in the CSA Women’s T20 Challenge is Tazmin Brits, who has scored 876 runs as of 2024. The leading wicket-taker is Jade de Figueiredo with 30 wickets to her name. Western Province is the most successful team, having won seven titles.
