The Women’s T20 International Pacific Cup is a cricket tournament contested between teams from the South East Pacific region. The tournament is played in the T20 format and is governed by New Zealand Cricket.
As of 2024, a total of six teams from the Oceania region compete in the tournament. These teams are Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand Maori, Cook Islands, Samoa, and Fiji. All six teams play each other in a league stage which is played in a single round-robin format. This means that at the end of the league stage each team has played five matches. The top two teams progress to the finals. Teams positioned third and fourth play a match for the third spot, whereas teams at five and six play a match for the fifth spot.
All matches, except the ones featuring Maori are given an International status. This means that based on the results of this match, teams can improve their international ranking. An improvement in the rankings through this tournament can better their chances of making it to the Women’s T20 World Cup directly or through the Global Qualifier.
The fifteen league matches are held within three days. The play-off matches for the third and fifth spot, and the final is contested on the same day. Papua New Guinea have won the first two editions of the competition. In the second edition of the first Women’s T20 Pacific Cup held in 2022, Papua New Guinea scored 219 runs in their 20 overs and bowled out Fiji for 41 in under 10 overs. As of 2024, this stands as the biggest wins in terms of margin of runs and also the highest score by any team in the tournament’s history.
