The Ultimate Pickleball Championships is a Tier 3 World Ranking tournament. It’s inaugural edition will be held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (Mumbai, India) in the last week of September 2023. The primary organizers of the tournament are the Pro World Talent Sports and the All India Pickleball Association.
The tournament will feature players from India, USA, Singapore, China, Nepal, Dubai, Tanzania and others. Multiple draws will be played out based on different age groups. These categories include U-16, U-19, U-35, 50+, 60+ and an open category. Over 350 players have been registered for this event.
The tournament features a “team event” format in the open category and the 35+ category. A tea3em can have a total of 10 players – 7 players + 3 substitutes. A tie between two teams will have 7 matches. One of these matches will be a timed-match. Both teams can use two powerplays per tie. A bonus point is awarded for a match win.
While the scoring of each match will largely depend on the conventional format, the tournament is expected to add a twist in all singles matches and one doubles match (of a tie). This little twist will be later announced by the organizers.
Since the tournament is a Tier 3 event, players can accumulate points to improve their global ranking. The tournament will be staged in outdoor settings with some notable sponsors being Selkirk, Franklin, Skechers, Decathlon and Fast & Up. Interested viewers can see the event live on YouTube.
