The Palermo Ladies Open an outdoor clay court tennis tournament on the women’s professional tennis circuit. The Italian tournament became a part of the women’s circuit in 1990. It is classified as a WTA 250 event as of 2024. The tournament has been held each year except from 2014 to 2018, when it’s license was sold to Malaysian Open.
Both singles and doubles events are held simultaneously at the tournament. The singles event has a main draw size of 32 players, with six slots allotted for the qualifiers and three for wildcard entrants. The doubles event features 16 pairs in the main draw, two of which enter through wild cards.
Each match is played in the conventional format of best of three sets. A tiebreak is played if the game score is 6-6. The player who is first to seven points with a difference of two points in the tiebreak wins the set. In doubles, the deciding set is played as a match tiebreak. The team who gets to ten points with a difference of two is the winner of the match.
The winner of both the singles and doubles tournaments get 250 points. In both events, the runner-up gets 163 points. As of 2024, the prize pool of the tournament is $267,082. The singles champion receives $35,248, whereas the doubles champions get $12,823.
The most successful singles player at the event is Annabel Medina Rodrigues, who won a record five titles at the event. Slovakia’s Janette Husarova and Belgium’s Kimberley Zimmermann are the most successful doubles player, having won three titles each.
