What is the Legends Cricket Trophy?

The Legends Cricket Trophy is a league competition played in the limited overs format. It is organized by the Board for Veteran Cricket in India. The first edition of the Legends Cricket Trophy was held in 2023 and was played in the T20 format. However, the format was revised to a 90-ball per innings from the second edition.

A total of seven teams participate in the competition. Each team is led by a retired international cricketer. The franchise teams represent a prominent city. Colombo Lions, Delhi Devils, Dubai Giants, Kandy Samp Army, New York Superstar Strikers, Punjab Royal, Rajasthan Kings are the teams who participated in the second edition. The composition of each team is based on the draft system.

Each team plays the other in a single round robin format. A team earns two points for a win, one point for a drawn or abandoned match, and zero points for a loss. At the end of the league stage the top two teams contest the final.

Each side bats for 90 balls. A team can use a maximum of five bowlers. No bowler can bowl more than three overs. However, one bowler can be allowed to bowl an extra fourth over if the captain notifies the umpire of this before the 60th ball of the innings. A strategic time out is taken at the end of the 48th ball. The first 24 balls are counted as the bowling powerplay. A batting powerplay can be taken after the 60th ball.

Indore Knights and Guwahati Avengers shared the trophy in the inaugural edition due to the final getting washed out due to rain.
