What is the European Cricket League?

The European Cricket League is a cricket tournament that is dubbed as the Champions League of European Cricket. It is played in the T10 format and features the best domestic and club teams from Europe.

The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) member federation teams namely Russia, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Denmark and Germany participate in this event. The goal of this tournament is to promote cricket in the European continent. Since it is played in a T10 format, matches are quick and entertaining for the spectators as well.

While the league was formed in 2018, the first tournament was held in 2019. The 2020 and 2021 editions of the event were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The winners of the 2019, 2022 and 2023 edition are VOC Rotterdam, Pak I Care Barcelona, and Dreux Ville Royale. A total of 963 clubs participated in the competition before qualifying for the main event.

The tournament follows a group stage followed by a knockout stage. A total of 109 matches are played between the 31 participating champion club teams. Cryptocurrency Kiba Inu is the sponsor for all 31 teams. The tournament is played across four weeks in the months of March-April.

The European Cricket Network governs the broadcast of the European Cricket League globally. It also maintains the scores, news and updates of the major European tournaments, squads and statistics. The European Cricket League reaches a spectatorship of 140 million viewers across 120 countries courtesy of the 40 broadcasters. The tournament is particularly famous for its marketing strategies which is largely because of some of their board members who were formerly a part of the marketing team of the UEFA Champions League.
