What is the Cup 1500 tier in pickleball?

The Professionals Pickleball Association is a governing body of pickleball that is based in the United States of America. It is an annual circuit of pickleball in the country that also offers ranking points to players based on their performance in various events.

All tournaments are categorised in one of the three levels: Open 1000, Cup 1500, and Slam 2000. A total of 26 tournaments are a part of the Professional Pickleball Association tour. This article emphasises on the Cup 1500 events.

There are around five tournaments who are part of the Cup 1500 event. These are held in Las Vegas, Virginia, Arizona, North Carolina, California. The tournament features events in the following disciplines: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

A Cup 1500 event lasts for a week. A progressive draw is followed where every round, starting from the qualifiers, round of 64, and onwards till the final is held. Each round is completed per day, with the finals coinciding with Sunday.

The champion, runner-up, third place, and fourth place finishers get 1500, 1200, 900, and 600 points respectively. Players who finish in the quarterfinals, round of 16, round of 32, and round of 64 get 300, 150, 75, and 37.5 points respectively. The total prize purse of a Cup 1500 event is $118,300. The singles champions of the event get $3330 each, whereas the doubles champions get $9000 where the money is split between the two players. The rest of the prize money is divided into accordance with the player’s final position at the tournament.
