The Cleveland Open is a professional tennis tournament on the women’s professional circuit. It is a part of the WTA 250 series of events. The tournament replaced the Connecticut Open on the calendar that ceased in 2019. It was in 2021, when the first edition of the Cleveland Open was held.
The Cleveland Open is branded as Tennis in the Land. It hosts events in both the singles and doubles. Each event is played as a single elimination bracket. The qualifying draw in singles has 24 slots, out of which four qualify for the main draw of 32. Three spots in the main draw are reserved for wild card entrants. The main draw of the doubles event has 16 brackets.
Each match of the tournament is played in the best of three sets format. A player wins a set when they win six games with a difference of two. If the score reaches six games apiece, then a tiebreak is played. The player who is first to seven points with a difference of two points wins the set. In doubles, if a third set is played, then it is played as a ten-point tiebreak. The pair who is first to ten points with a difference of two wins the match.
The winner of the tournament gets 250 ranking points whereas the runner-up gets 163 points. As of 2024, the total prize money that the event has an offer is $267,082. The champion of the singles event receives $35,250, whereas the doubles champions get $12,820.
In its first four editions, no singles player has won the title twice. Each edition has seen a new pair of finalists. In doubles, Shuko Aoyama, Nicole Melichar-Martinez, and Ellen Perez are the only players to win the doubles finals twice. Each of them has won the event once each.
