Global Super League is a T20 competition that is organized by Cricket West Indies. It inaugurated in 2024 and is South America’s first stand-alone cricket tournament. The winning team of the tournament bags USD $10,00,000.
All matches of the event will be held in Guyana as the event is a part of the One Guyana Project which is sponsored by ExxonMobil Guyana. Moreover, the organizing chair of the tournament is the legendary cricketer, Sir Clive Lloyd.
The tournament features five teams of different countries. Each of the five teams are domestic teams that have participated in National league tournaments of their respective countries.
The 2024 edition featured teams invited from Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League, Vitality Blast, T20 Big Bash, and Bangladesh Premier League. Lahore Qalandars, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Hampshire Hawks, Rangpur Riders, and Victoria participated in 2024.
The five teams face each other in a round-robin format where one team plays the other once. Teams earns two points for a win, one for an abandoned match, and zero for a loss. At the end of the league stage, the top two sides contest the final. If two teams are tied at the same number of points, then the number of match wins and net run-rate decide the better team.
Each team comprises a mix of retired and active players. The Global Super League is an excellent initiative to see face-offs between international domestic sides. However, the scheduling of the event alongside other T20 leagues is a major concern for the organizers as it affects the players’ availability.
