The Global T20 Canada is a cricket tournament held in Canada. It is a sporting league that features franchise teams that play against each other in the T20 format. The event was first held in 2018 and has been approved by the International Cricket Council.
A team participating in the Global T20 Canada must have at least four Canadian players. The rest of the players can be active international players from other countries. Players get into a side based on an initial player draft that is released ahead of the main event.
As of 2024, the participating teams are Brampton Wolves, Bangla Tigers Mississauga, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals, Surrey Jaguars, and Vancouver Knights. Previously, a West Indies B side, Edmonton Royals, Winnipeg Hawks, and Mississauga Panthers were also a part of the tournament.
Teams face each other in a league stage followed by the knockout rounds. Each team plays the other in a single round-robin format. A win is worth two points, a loss is worth zero, and one point is awarded to both teams in case of no result or draw. At the end of the league stage the top four sides progress to the playoffs.
The top two teams of the league stage play the first qualifier. The winner of this match goes to the final. Teams placed third and fourth in the league stage play the eliminator. The winner of this match plays the loser of the first qualifier in the second qualifier. Finally, the winner of the second qualifier plays the winner of the first qualifier for the championship.
No team has won the Global T20 Canada twice. Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks, Montreal Tigers, and Toronto Nationals have won the title once each. As of 2024, Rassie van der Dussen’s tally of 699 runs is the highest for any player in the tournament. Sandeep Lamichhane is the leading wicket-taker with 32 scalps to his name.
