The Valletta Cup is a European cricket tournament featuring women’s national sides of different European nations. The tournament is organized by the Malta Cricket Association, and hence is named after the capital of the country. All matches are held in the Marsa Sports Club.
The tournament made its debut in 2019 and has since followed the round-robin format followed by the final. All matches of the tournament are held in the standard rules of women’s T20 International as set by the International Cricket Council.
Matches are played in the round-robin format, which means each team plays the other at least once. A team gets two points for a win, and one point each for a tie, draw, or abandoned match. No points are lost for losing a match. If teams are tied at the same number of points at the end of the round robin stage, then the net run rate decides the better team. The top two teams at the end of the league stage contest the final. Depending on the number of teams, play-offs for various positions are held at the end.
As per the tournament’s rules, only the associate members of the International Cricket Council can participate in the event. Since being held each year since 2019 (except 2020), the tournament has seen participation from Malta, Gibraltar, Bulgaria, Romania, Luxembourg, France, Serbia, Greece, Isle of Man, Iceland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Switzerland.
As of 2024, none of these teams have managed to win the title more than once. Czech Republic, Malta, Romania, Switzerland, and Isle of Man have been crowned the champions once each.
