The European Pickleball Championships is a team event that crowns the best European team in pickleball. It is organized by the European Pickleball Federation.
Countries who are registered as an associate or a full member of the European Pickleball Federation are allowed to participate in the championships. There are two events that are held during the week of the competition. The first is a Pre-European Championship event which is an Open tournament without any restrictions on skill level and age. This is held is men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles categories.
The main event is also played in each of the aforementioned doubles events. However, these competitions are played in tandem with the players’ age group and skill levels. The age groups are 18+, 50+, and 65+. The skill levels are 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, and 4.5+. In each discipline (men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles), teams will play a league stage in the round robin format. Based on their performance in the league stage, they will progress to the single elimination brackets. Thus, each team will be allowed to play a minimum of four matches. Each participant needs to register with 30 GBP for every event they wish to participate in.
Teams will compete for the gold, silver, and bronze medal positions. If a certain category has less than five registrations, then upon the tournament director’s discretion, this category will be merged with another category. The inaugural event of the tournament was held in 2024 and played at the Southampton Tennis Centre. It hosts 20 acrylic hard courts for the European Pickleball Championships. All matches in both the pre-tournament and the main tournament categories will be scheduled such that each day closest at 5.30 p.m. Players will then be allowed to practice if they want till 8 p.m. on the Southampton courts.
