The Newport Open, better known as the Hall of Fame Open is an outdoor grass court tournament on the men’s professional tennis tour. It was first held in 1976 and is played at the premises of the International Tennis Hall of Fame (Newport, Rhode Island).
The ATP 250 event features both singles and doubles tournaments. The singles draw of 32 has four spots reserved for players who enter through the qualifying draw and four players for wild card entrants. In doubles, the draw features 16 teams, two of which enter through wild cards.
All matches are played in the conventional best of three sets format. A player wins a set when he wins six games with a difference of two games. If the set reaches a score of six games apiece, then a tiebreak decides the winner of the match. The player who wins seven points with a lead of at least two points wins the set. The doubles match features a match tiebreak should it go to a decider. The team who is first to ten points with a difference of two is the winner of the match.
Winners of the singles and doubles events get 250 points. The singles and doubles runner-up gets 165 and 150 points respectively. As of 2024, the prize pool for the event is $6,61,585. The winner of the singles and doubles events get $100,635 and $34,960 respectively.
The most successful singles player is John Isner, who has won four titles as of 2024. In doubles, Australia’s Jordan Kerr holds the record for being a part of five doubles titles winning teams.
