The WTA Lyon Open is a women’s professional tennis event that is held annually. It is played on indoor hard courts and is a part of WTA 250 tier of events. It was first held in 2020.
The tournament hosts two events, women’s singles and women’s doubles. The women’s singles event features a qualifying draw and a main draw. Four players from the qualifying draw make it to the main draw. The eight highest ranked players are seeded in the main draw. Three players get a direct entry into the main draw through a wild card. The main draw in singles is played in a knockout format and the size of the bracket is 32. On the other hand, there are 16 pairs that are placed in the knockout draw of the doubles competition.
A match follows the conventional scoring system where players play each other in a best of three sets format. A deciding set in singles can go to a tiebreaker when the set score is six games each. The player who wins seven points in this with a difference of two points wins the match. The doubles matches have a deciding set in the form of a tiebreak. The team who wins ten points first with a difference of two wins the match.
As of 2023, the total prize money of the tournament is $259,303. The winner of either event gets 250 ranking points. The runner-ups get 163 points. Semifinalists and quarterfinalists get 98 and 54 points respectively. No player has reached the final twice in its four editions held as of 2023. Similarly, the doubles event has featured sixteen different players in the final.
