The Indian Veteran Premier League or the Bharat Veteran Premier League is a T20 league tournament. It features veteran Indian and international cricketers alongside regional cricketers. The tournament is held in Greater Noida for its inaugural edition. It is organized by 100 Sports.
The inaugural edition of the Indian Veteran Premier League is set to take place in 2024. The participating teams are franchise teams of different regions of India. These are Chhattisgarh Warriors, Mumbai Champions, Rajasthan Legends, Red Carpet Delhi, Telangana Tigers, VVIP Uttar Pradesh.
Ahead of the tournament, an auction is held where franchise owners and managers have to make a squad of 16 members during a draft ceremony. A team can have twelve regional players, two Indian Veteran players, and two International players. The two former Indian players must have played test cricket during their professional career. Moreover, all retired cricketers must have crossed the age of 40 years to be included in the team.
Teams play each other in a round-robin format during the league stage. The top four teams then progress to the knockout rounds which includes the semifinals and finals. On each day, except the opening day and the day of the finals, two matches are played on the same day.
The Indian Veteran Premier League’s rules follow the same as that of any other T20 league. The conventional rules pertaining to powerplay, field restrictions, super over, maximum overs bowled by bowlers remain the same. Despite the name of the league, an International player can also captain the side.
